The Nuance Peroxide & Timing Guide

The volume of peroxide you choose determines both the overall strength of your color result and your exact processing window: 

  • 5 Vol Peroxide (Semi-Permanent): The gentlest option for deposit-only or subtle toning. Process for 45 to 60 minutes.  
  • 10 Vol Peroxide (Semi-Permanent): Ideal for going darker, subtle shifts, or basic non-lift shading. Process for 45 minutes.  
  • 20 Vol Peroxide (Permanent): Your go-to selection for full grey coverage and lasting, vibrant color. Process for 35 to 45 minutes.

The Golden Rules
Read these before you mix anything.
Always strand test first. Do a strand test 24 to 48 hours before colouring, every time. It tells you how the colour will take and protects you from surprises.
Colour doesn't lift colour. Hair colour can't lighten hair that's already been coloured. If you want to go lighter, you'll need to bleach first, or see a professional hairdresser

  • A non-metal bowl and colour brush

  • Gloves

  • Sectioning clips

  • A towel you don't mind staining

Step-by-Step Instructions

Routine 1: Full-Head Color & Root Touch-Ups

  1. Prep & Test: Always perform a patch test and a preliminary strand test before mixing your formula to ensure your hair reacts perfectly.
  2. Section: Divide dry, unwashed hair into four clean quadrants using hair clips to guarantee even, thorough coverage.

  3. Mix & Apply: Mix your chosen shade with your selected peroxide volume according to your primary target level. Glove up and apply with a flat brush section-by-section. 

  4. Rinse: Wait out your full processing time, then rinse thoroughly at the basin until the water runs completely clear.

For Roots Only: Apply the mixture directly to your regrowth area and let it process completely.

For Refreshing Faded Ends: Apply the mixture to your roots first, then work the color through your mid-lengths and ends for the final 20 minutes of your processing window. 

Routine 2: Toning

If you are using Nuance Tint to tone pre-lightened hair down to a clean blonde or ash shade, the rule changes: 

  1. The Toning Ratio: Mix your Nuance Tint at a precise 1:1.5 ratio (for example: 10ml of color cream + 15ml of low-volume peroxide like 5 Vol or 10 Vol).
  2. Apply Damp: Apply the smooth mixture directly to clean, damp hair.
  3. Monitor Closely: Toning moves incredibly fast. Let it process for anywhere between 5 to 20 minutes, watching it closely every minute. Rinse the exact second you hit your perfect shade
